When a PlayMetrics calendar stops updating — or shows a training time you know has changed — it's rarely PlayMetrics that's broken. PlayMetrics is unusually upfront about this in their own help article: a synced calendar may not always be current, because Google and Apple only pull feed updates periodically. This page walks the causes in the order worth checking, from the one that needs no fix at all to the one that needs a fresh link.
Nothing is broken — your calendar app just hasn't re-read the feed yet
This is the first thing to rule out, and it's the answer most of the time. Google Calendar refreshes subscribed links on its own cycle, typically every 12 to 24 hours and sometimes longer; iPhones behave the same way and are equally silent about it. There's no button to force it. PlayMetrics says as much in their own help article — a synced calendar may not always be in sync, because Google and Apple only pull feed updates periodically. So if a training session moved this morning and your phone still shows the old time, open PlayMetrics itself: if the new time is there, the feed is fine and you're just waiting on Google or Apple.
You imported a file instead of subscribing to a link — imports never update
Adding a downloaded .ics file to your calendar creates a one-time copy that will sit there unchanged forever, no matter what happens in PlayMetrics. It looks identical to a subscription on day one and then quietly goes stale. The fix is to delete what you added and start over from the Sync Calendar button on the PlayMetrics Calendar page, taking the copyable hyperlink rather than a downloaded file — then add that URL through Google Calendar's Settings → Add calendar → From URL, or on iPhone through Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar.
Only one of your kids is updating — the link is per player
This one catches nearly every two-player family. The PlayMetrics Calendar page merges all the players attached to your account, so it looks like one calendar — but Sync Calendar issues one subscription link per player. If you ran it once, you subscribed to one child. Go back to Sync Calendar and repeat it for the second player, then add that link separately. (Schedule Caddie will take both links and merge them back into one calendar for you, which is the part PlayMetrics can't do outside its own app.)
The calendar arrived but shows nothing — or shows less than you expected
Two honest possibilities before you assume it's broken. First, check that the calendar is actually switched on: in Google Calendar it can sit unticked in the left sidebar, and on an iPhone it can be hidden in the calendar list, in which case the events are there and simply not drawn. Second, check what you subscribed to — Sync Calendar offers Full Calendar or Games Only, and Games Only strips out practices and club events by design. If you picked Games Only and are looking for training sessions, that's the whole explanation.
The link went stale — grab a fresh one from Sync Calendar
Links can stop carrying events when a club rolls a team over to a new season or restructures it, and nothing about that failure is visible from your side: the calendar simply stops changing. If the first four causes don't fit, the cheapest test is to go back to the PlayMetrics Calendar page, run Sync Calendar again for that player, and replace the old subscription with the fresh hyperlink. Remove the old one first, or you'll end up with a dead calendar and a live one side by side.
A full day. Google and Apple refresh subscribed calendars roughly every 12 to 24 hours, occasionally longer, and neither gives you a way to force it. If a change you can see inside PlayMetrics still hasn't reached your calendar after 24 hours, then it's worth working through the causes above.
No — there's no refresh button for a subscribed calendar, and no setting that changes how often it checks. The only real workaround is to remove the subscription and add the same link again, which pulls a fresh copy immediately. That's a blunt instrument, not a fix.
Because each player is a separate feed. PlayMetrics merges your players inside its own Calendar view, but Sync Calendar hands out one link per player, so each child's subscription succeeds or fails on its own. Check that you added a link for every player, and that each one is still ticked in your calendar app.
On a computer, Calendar sits in the left-hand menu; on a phone it's behind the menu icon rather than a visible sidebar. If it's still missing, check which role you're signed in as — PlayMetrics accounts can hold several roles (coach, club admin, Player Contact), and you may need to switch to your Player Contact role first.
Not by your calendar app. Subscribed calendars update silently whenever Google or Apple gets around to it — the event just moves, with no notification. Schedule Caddie checks the same PlayMetrics feed every hour and emails you exactly what changed: new time, old time, which player. It's free, and it merges every kid and every app into one calendar.
