sportsYou is the free, school-safe app a lot of American high school programs standardized on, and the schedule rides along in a Calendar tab next to messages, photos, and documents. Because the calendar is one tab among many, the subscribe option is easy to walk straight past — it's an unlabeled icon in the top right.
Once you have the link, Google takes it like any other calendar feed. Two things worth knowing before you start: sportsYou builds one link out of whichever calendars you toggle on, so two kids in the same athletic department can share a single subscription, and Google only accepts a calendar URL on its website, never in the phone app.
Open sportsYou and go to Calendar. On sportsyou.com, Calendar sits in the left column near the top. In the phone app, tap Calendar in the bottom tray. Either one works — the link you end up with is the same.
Tap the icon in the top right. On the web it's a small calendar icon; in the app it's the subscribe icon. This is the step people miss, because nothing on the screen says "export."
Toggle on every calendar you want in the link. sportsYou shows each calendar you have access to with an on/off switch beside it. This is unusual and worth taking advantage of: you're not exporting one team, you're choosing which teams get folded into a single URL. If both kids are in the same athletic department, switch both on now and you'll only add one calendar to Google.
Tap the green Copy URL button. The phone app labels the same green button Copy Link, and offers a blue Step-by-Step link beside it with instructions for individual calendar apps. You just need the URL itself — it will look something like webcal://calendar.sportsyou.com/access/<token>/<id>.ics. Treat it as private: anyone holding it can read that schedule.
Open Google Calendar in a browser — the phone app can't do this part. On a computer, go to calendar.google.com. On a phone, the Google Calendar app has no way to add a calendar from a URL — open calendar.google.com in your phone's browser instead, and use your browser's Request Desktop Site option if the mobile page hides the settings.
Click the + next to "Other calendars" → From URL → paste → Add calendar. In the left sidebar, click the + beside "Other calendars" and choose From URL. Paste the sportsYou link exactly as you copied it and click Add calendar. If Google rejects a webcal:// link, change webcal:// to https:// and try again.
Check it on your phone. Events appear on the web within a minute or so. In the Google Calendar phone app, open Settings, find the new calendar under your account, and make sure Sync is turned on so it shows up there too.
Subscribing puts the schedule in Google Calendar, but Google re-reads subscribed feeds on its own cycle — typically every 12 to 24 hours — and it never tells you when an event changes. A game that moved this morning can still show the old time at pickup. Schedule Caddie checks the same sportsYou feed every hour and emails you exactly what changed, so the calendar on your phone is the backup rather than the only line of defense. Real families' sportsYou feeds have been importing and syncing hourly through it since September 2026.
Paste the link into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook and it works — and sportsYou is better than most here, since the toggles let you bundle several sportsYou teams into one URL before you ever reach Google. The wall is the app boundary: the moment one kid's club moves to TeamSnap or GameChanger, those toggles can't reach it, you're back to managing separate calendars by hand, and nothing warns you when two of them land at the same hour.
Google Calendar won't take my sportsYou link
sportsYou's own help article suggests removing a couple of characters from the end of the link before pasting it into Google Calendar, which is a strong hint the URL is fussy about exact formatting. Copy it fresh rather than retyping it, and try swapping webcal:// for https:// if Google refuses the first form. If it still won't take, paste the link into Schedule Caddie exactly as copied — we read the feed directly, no reformatting needed.
I don't see an icon in the top right
Make sure you're on the main Calendar view and not inside a single event. If you've just joined sportsYou and haven't been added to a team yet, there's no calendar to subscribe to yet either — that icon has nothing to offer until a coach adds you.
Only some of my teams show up in Google
Go back to the subscribe screen in sportsYou and check the on/off toggles — anything switched off is left out of the link entirely, so Google never sees it. Switch the missing team on, copy the URL again, and add that link to Google Calendar.
There is no "From URL" option in my Google Calendar app
There isn't one — the phone app genuinely can't add subscribed calendars. This step has to happen at calendar.google.com in a browser. Once it's added there, the calendar syncs down to the app on its own.
A game moved in sportsYou but Google Calendar still shows the old time
That's Google being slow, not the link being broken. Google re-reads subscribed feeds on its own cycle — typically every 12 to 24 hours — and there's no button to force it. Schedule Caddie checks the same sportsYou feed every hour and emails you exactly what changed, so the calendar becomes your backup rather than your only warning.
Open the Calendar tab in sportsYou, tap the icon in the top right, toggle on the calendars you want, and tap the green Copy URL button (Copy Link in the app). Then open calendar.google.com in a browser, click the + next to "Other calendars", choose From URL, paste the link, and click Add calendar.
Something like webcal://calendar.sportsyou.com/access/<token>/<id>.ics — a token in the middle is what makes it yours. Treat it like a password: anyone holding that link can read the schedule. If Google rejects the webcal:// form, changing it to https:// usually gets it accepted.
Yes, and it's one of the nicer things about sportsYou: the toggles on the subscribe screen let you fold several sportsYou teams into a single URL, so you add one calendar to Google instead of three. The limit is the app boundary — a sibling on a TeamSnap or GameChanger team is invisible to those toggles.
Google decides on its own — typically every 12 to 24 hours, sometimes faster, with no setting to change it and no way to force a refresh. Changes also arrive silently: the game just moves, with nothing to tell you it moved.
No. Subscribed calendars update quietly in the background, whenever Google gets around to it. If you want an actual heads-up, Schedule Caddie re-reads the same sportsYou feed every hour and emails you what changed — new time, old time, which team. Real families are syncing sportsYou feeds through it today.
Yes, with one awkward hop. Copy the link in the sportsYou app (Calendar tab → subscribe icon → Copy Link), then add it at calendar.google.com in your phone's browser rather than the Google Calendar app, since the app can't add calendars from a URL. Request Desktop Site helps if the sidebar is hidden.
A From-URL subscription only lives in the Google account that added it. Either send them the same sportsYou link to add in their own Google Calendar, or put the schedule in Schedule Caddie and send a share link that opens in any browser with nothing to set up.
No. sportsYou is free for coaches, players, and families, and the subscribe/export option is part of the free product — there's no upgrade prompt standing between you and the link.
