Two quirks make this pairing confusing: BAND has two calendar features that sound almost identical and do opposite things (you want Export, not Subscribe), and Skylight only displays calendars synced to it. Chain the hops in the right order and it's five minutes — plus one extra reason to route through a merge first, since BAND's export carries its own anniversary entries onto the wall alongside the actual games.
In BAND: Calendar tab → Manage Events → Export Band Calendars. Open the specific group whose schedule you want — BAND groups can be a team, a whole club, or a classroom — then the Calendar tab, then Manage Events, then Export Band Calendars. Not Subscribe via URL: that one runs the opposite direction, pulling an outside calendar into BAND. Export is available to every member, not just admins. If the group lists several calendars, pick the one your child is actually on.
Paste it into Schedule Caddie (free) and copy your one URL. Add Schedule → paste the exported link. Add the other kids' feeds and the school PDF while you're there — the point is one family calendar, not another silo. We also drop BAND's own anniversary entries (“The Band was created 1 year(s) ago on this day”) on the way in, so the wall shows games and practices instead of birthday notices. Then copy the merged All Events URL from Subscribe & Share.
Paste the URL into the Skylight app. Skylight subscribes to calendar feed URLs directly (per its support docs): in the Skylight app, My Skylight menu → Synced Calendars → Sync new calendar → Calendar URL → paste → Done. Prefer the feed mirrored in your phone calendar too? Subscribe Google (web: + next to “Other calendars” → From URL), Apple (Settings → Apps → Calendar → Add Subscribed Calendar), or Outlook (Add calendar → Subscribe from web) instead — the Skylight displays connected calendars as well.
Check the calendar is toggled on for the Skylight. In the Skylight app (or on the device), confirm the calendar you just added — URL-synced or account-synced — is enabled for display. From then on the pipeline maintains itself: whatever the group posts in BAND ends up on the kitchen wall.
I only see "Subscribe via URL," not an export option
Subscribe via URL does the opposite of what you want — it imports an outside calendar INTO BAND. The option you need is Calendar tab → Manage Events → Export Band Calendars → Copy the URL.
The wall is showing "The Band was created 1 year(s) ago on this day"
Nothing is broken — BAND adds anniversary events to the group calendar automatically, and a raw export carries them along with the real games. Subscribed feeds give you no per-event filter, so on a direct subscription you either live with them or drop the calendar. Schedule Caddie strips these on import, which is the tidiest fix for a display that is supposed to be glanceable.
Someone moved a practice but the Skylight still shows the old time
Subscribed feeds refresh on the display's own schedule — Skylight doesn't publish an interval for URL-synced calendars, and routing through Google/Apple adds a 12–24-hour hop of its own. It will catch up — but if you want to KNOW today, route the feed through Schedule Caddie first: free change-alert emails fire when the source changes, not when the wall repaints.
My group posts things that are not games at all
Expected. BAND is general-purpose, so the export carries everything the group posts — team dinners, fundraiser deadlines, reminders. The feed is honest; it is just noisier than a dedicated sports app, and that noise is more obvious on a wall display than on a phone.
No — calendar syncing is part of the base Skylight experience. Plus covers extras like Magic Import and chore rewards. Everything on this page works on the free tiers of both products.
You can — Skylight takes a feed URL directly, and for a single group it works. What you give up: the other kids' feeds and the school calendar merged alongside, the anniversary-event cleanup, and the change-alert emails that tell you a practice moved (displays absorb feed changes silently). The merge upstream is what makes the wall trustworthy.
Subscribe via URL pulls an outside calendar (like a school calendar) into BAND for the group to see. Export Band Calendars does the reverse — it hands BAND's own events out as a link. They look similar in the menu but move data in opposite directions, and only the export one can feed a Skylight.
Yes. Export Band Calendars is available to any member of the group, not just admins or managers.
No — we're an independent, free family-schedule tool. Skylight makes a genuinely nice display and BAND is where a lot of teams already live; we keep the schedules feeding the wall accurate. The three work well together.
