Here's the dirty secret of subscribed calendars — Google, Apple, and Cozi alike: when the coach moves Saturday's game, your calendar quietly updates and tells no one. The information was delivered. The notification never existed. This page is about the difference between a calendar that's technically correct and one that keeps you actually informed.
Understand what a subscribed calendar actually promises. When you subscribe to a TeamSnap, GameChanger, or school feed in Google, Apple, or Cozi, you get a mirror: whatever the source says now, your calendar shows. That is genuinely useful — and completely silent. If Saturday's game moves from 9:00 to 8:00, the entry just changes. Nothing notifies you, nothing marks it as changed, and the old time is simply gone.
Route your feeds through a calendar that diffs. Put your team and school feeds into Schedule Caddie instead, and subscribe your other calendars to its merged feed if you like. On every re-check, it compares the feed's current contents against what it saw last time — added, removed, and modified events, field by field.
Read the change email, not the whole calendar. When something actually changed, you get an email naming it: "Sat Sep 26 · Game vs Severna Park — time changed: 10:30 AM → 9:00 AM." Old value, new value, which kid, which team. No change, no email.
Let everyone you share with see the current truth. Your share pages (grandparents, co-parent, sitter) always show the corrected schedule — and your other calendar apps catch up on their next refresh. You stay the person who KNOWS what moved, instead of the person who finds out at the empty field.
Google Calendar showed the new time eventually — isn't that enough?
It shows the new time to anyone who happens to look at that day again. The failure mode is the game you already memorized: you looked Tuesday, it moved Wednesday, and Saturday you're an hour late. Silent correctness only helps people who re-read their calendar daily.
Doesn't Cozi notify about calendar changes?
Cozi Gold includes Calendar Change Notifications, and for events created or edited inside Cozi they work as advertised. For subscribed feeds, Cozi documents that feed events are read-only and can't carry reminders — and its help pages don't describe change alerts for them. If your schedule pain comes from team apps and school feeds, check whether your setup actually covers those.
My team app sends its own notifications — why isn't that enough?
For one team, it often is. The problem compounds: three kids, five apps, each notifying differently (or only notifying the parent whose account it is). One diffed calendar means one place where every change from every source lands, in the same format, to both parents.
Because a subscription is defined as a mirror, not a watched document. The calendar re-downloads the feed on its refresh cycle and displays it — it keeps no memory of what the feed used to say, so it has nothing to compare against. Detecting changes requires storing the previous state and diffing, which is a different kind of product.
Feeds are re-checked on a 6-hour cycle (tournament feeds daily), so a morning change is typically in your inbox the same day. The alert names each change precisely — and the calendar, share pages, and your subscribed apps all reflect it.
New events, canceled events, and modifications — time, date, location, and title changes, shown as old → new. Bulk changes are summarized with the first few named and a link to the full list.
Linked school calendars, yes — same diffing. Uploaded PDFs and photos update when you upload a revision. The change emails cover anything that arrived via a live link.
Change alerts are free — they are the core of the product, not an add-on tier.
