How to Share Your Family Calendar Without Sharing a Password

Grandma drives to Tuesday games. Your co-parent needs pickup times. The sitter needs Thursday. None of them need the ability to edit — or delete — your family's calendar. Yet most family apps have exactly one sharing model: add someone to the account and hand them the keys. Here's the view-only way.

⏱ Takes about 3 minutes

The steps

  1. 1

Get every schedule into one calendar first. Paste in each team app's calendar link (TeamSnap, GameChanger, PlayMetrics — we have guides for 20+ platforms) and upload the ones that only exist on paper, like the school PDF. One merged, auto-updating calendar is the thing worth sharing.

  2. 2

Create a share page for exactly what they need. In Schedule Caddie, open the schedule and tap the share card. You choose the scope: just Emma's soccer for the grandparents who drive to games, or the whole family calendar for a co-parent. Each share page is its own link showing only what you picked — nothing else from your account.

  3. 3

Text them the link — that's the whole setup on their end. The share page is a normal web page. No app to install, no account to create, no password to receive. It opens in any browser on any phone, and it shows the CURRENT schedule every time — when a coach moves practice, the page is already right.

  4. 4

They can subscribe from the page if they want it in their own calendar. Every share page offers an "Add to your calendar" option for the grandparent who lives in Google or Apple Calendar. Still read-only, still nothing they can break, still zero access to your account.

Common snags

My family app only offers "add a family member" — with full access

That's the design in most family organizers. Cozi, for example, documents that every member signs in with "the one shared password" and gets full rights to view, add, edit, and delete anything — their FAQ states there is no restricted-access option. If view-only is what you actually want, the fix is sharing a page, not sharing credentials.

Grandma clicked the link but says it's asking her to log in

Share pages never require a login — if she's being asked for one, she's likely landed on the app's sign-in page instead (usually from tapping a browser suggestion). Re-send the exact link; it starts with schedulecaddie.com/s/. Bookmark it once and it works forever.

I shared too much — how do I take it back?

Delete the share page (or create a narrower one). The link stops working immediately. Because viewers never had credentials, there are no passwords to change and no accounts to untangle.

Frequently asked questions

Is a share link safe? Anyone with the link can see it.

The link contains a long random token that can't be guessed, and it shows only the schedule you scoped — never your account, your other kids' calendars, or any editing controls. It's the same model banks use for statement links: possession of the exact URL is the key. And unlike a shared password, you can revoke it any time by deleting the page.

Can the person I share with change or delete events?

No. Share pages are view-only by construction — there is no edit button to find and no permission to escalate. The failure mode of shared-password apps (someone deletes an event, or the whole account) cannot happen through a share page.

Doesn't Cozi have calendar sharing?

Cozi shares by adding people to the account — everyone gets the one shared family password with full edit and delete rights (per Cozi's own FAQ). Cozi can also emit a read-only iCal URL per family member, which works if your grandparent is comfortable subscribing to calendar URLs in their own calendar app — though Cozi notes updates can take up to 48 hours to appear in Google Calendar. A share page is a link that just opens, already current.

Does the viewer need the Schedule Caddie app?

There is no app to need — Schedule Caddie itself runs in the browser, and share pages are plain web pages. If they can open a text message, they can see the schedule.

What does this cost?

Nothing. Schedule Caddie is free, including unlimited share pages and the change-alert emails that tell you when a coach moves something.
